On the Trail of Another Soul

As I read a biography and an autobiographical book, I make a fish bone diagram or a small chart with date/year and mark vital people/places/incidents/experiences against that. Sometimes I just read the book, from page one to very last – as if speed reading. Then after few months I go back and read the book again because I had found something interesting during my first read. This time I make the chart as I read along. This helps me retain the information of the person I am reading about, his/her view points and experiences.  What methods do you use to assimilate the information and life lessons from biographies and autobiographies?
